My Five Minute Journal template displayed on the Supernote Nomad

In 2017, I made a seemingly small purchase that had an outsized impact—the Five Minute Journal1 changed how I experience and reflect on each day. The low time commitment, structured prompts, and emphasis on small wins primes my mind for gratitude.

I prefer to handwrite my notes over typing them, which makes the Five Minute Journal format perfect for me. Writing by hand helps me remember things and reduces distractions since I can’t wander off to start browsing the internet. But I also don’t like clutter. I’m starting to accumulate a lot of physical notebooks dating back 10+ years. This tension between wanting to continue my journaling routine while avoiding an overflowing bookshelf led me to explore digital alternatives.

The Supernote Nomad (A6 X2) is a great digital notetaking device. Writing on it feels very similar to pen on paper, and it has loads of features such as handwriting recognition, note linking, and search (to name only a few). Additionally, it offers customizable templates, which I find to be invaluable.

Ratta, the company behind Supernote, provides several templates out of the box, but also makes it possible for users to create their own. The first template I looked for after setting up my Nomad was the Five Minute Journal. There’s no shortage of them online, but none looked clean and minimal—and everyone was charging for them—so I opened Figma and made my own.

Here’s how to add this template to your Supernote:

  1. Download the template image. Note: This template is for the smaller A6 X2 Nomad only, not the newer and larger A5 X2 Manta.
  2. Place the (.PNG) image in the MyStyle folder on your Supernote. This can be done via the Supernote Partner app or by a direct USB cable connection.
  3. Select the template from the Customization tab when creating a new notebook or changing templates on an existing notebook.

With this digital template, I’ve maintained the gratitude practice that transformed my daily perspective back in 2017, while sparing my bookshelves. I designed the template to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Please share your thoughts after using it, and reach out with any suggested improvements. I hope it adds the same value to your journaling routine that the original brought to mine.
